"The Higher Education Reforms Commission and the Commission for Examination Reforms (2022), appointed by the Government of Kerala, pointed out that the majority of universities in Kerala are functioning in a conventional manner. They highlighted that the services provided by these universities can be improved only by establishing a system that ensures prompt service delivery, ease of use, transparency, and optimal use of technology. They recommended the implementation of an e-governance system for effective management of universities and colleges in the state.

In response, the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala, initiated the Kerala Resources for Education Administration and Planning (K-REAP) project, which has been entrusted to the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) for implementation across all universities and colleges in the state. The K-REAP project aims to provide robust, unified, and integrated technology solutions to address the governance and administrative needs of universities in Kerala.

The K-REAP software offers modules covering various academic and administrative functions, such as admissions, examinations, and student lifecycle management. It is designed to facilitate seamless communication, improve data accuracy, and support paperless operations, thereby contributing to the digital transformation of higher education in Kerala."
